The Welfare Support Service provides debt, benefit and money advice on the phone, in your local area or in your home.
This service is free, impartial and confidential. It is open to everyone living in South Tyneside including social renters, private renters and home owners.
The Welfare Support Service can help you if you need:
- Benefit advice and support with applications and appeals
- Debt advice, including bankruptcy and debt relief orders
- Advice on whether you will be better off in work
- Support with budgeting
- Help preparing for Universal Credit
- Help with the impact of the Bedroom Tax
- Help with the impact of the Benefit Cap
Our expert Debt and Benefit Advisors provide advice on debt, benefits and budgeting. We can support you with benefit applications, appeals and tribunals. We can also provide help at an early stage to support you in keeping your home and making the most of your money.
The Welfare Support Service also manages the Local Welfare Provision (crisis support) scheme. This is the Council-run scheme which provides crisis expenses and community care support.
The Welfare Support Service aims to increase access to the service across the Borough, making use of mobile technology and community venues. The service also supports with increasing digital access and access to employment.
