9 May 2025: Details received from the inspector about the examination hearings

On 9 May, the Council received the Draft Hearings Programme, Inspector's Matters Issues and Questions - Stage 1, and Guidance Note.

The Inspector's Matters, Issues and Questions sets out the issues the inspector wishes to discuss at the hearings.

The Guidance Note has been prepared to assist individuals and organisations involved in the examination of the South Tyneside Local Plan. 

The Guidance Note provides details of the venue and relevant deadlines. The Stage 1 hearing sessions will open on Tuesday 8 July 2025.

The draft Programme of Hearings provides a draft schedule for the Stage 1 - EiP Hearings.

7 May 2025: Reply to our response to the inspector's initial letter

On 7 May 2025, a letter was received from the Local Plan inspector in response to a letter we sent the inspector dated 2 May 2025.

2 May 2025: Response to the inspector's initial letter

On 2 May 2025 South Tyneside Council responded to the inspector's initial letter received on 17 April 2025.

This has been added to the 'South Tyneside Council response to the inspector' section of the examination library.

17 April 2025: Receipt of inspector's initial letter

On 17 April 2025, a letter was received from the Local Plan inspector. This has been added to the post submission correspondence from the inspector section of the examination library.

20 March 2025: Appointment of inspector

On 20 March 2025, a letter was received from the Planning Inspectorate appointing an inspector to examine the South Tyneside Local Plan.

The appointment letter is available to view in the post submission documents section of the examination library.  

12 March 2025: Submission of the Local Plan

On 4 March 2025, The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) intervened in the South Tyneside Local Plan.

Under section 27 of the 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, the Council was directed to submit the Publication draft South Tyneside Local Plan (2023 -2040) for Examination in Public by 12 March 2025. 

In accordance with the Secretary of State's direction, on 11 March 2025 the Council submitted the Local Plan to be independently examined.
