Job Seekers Invited to Explore Next Steps
School leavers, parents and job seekers are invited to attend a careers fair next week.
Your Next Steps, Live hosted by South Tyneside Council, and supported by South Tyneside College, will give people the opportunity to explore job and training options.
Attendees will also have the chance to meet major employers including Northumbria Police, Keepmoat, A & P Tyne, Training in Care, Waites, Foundation of Light and Harton Academy Sixth Form and hear about vacancies on offer.
There will also be presentations from training providers including Connexions South Tyneside. Last year's event was by more than 700 people.
Cllr Margaret Meling, Lead Member for Economic Growth, Skills and Climate Change, said: "This event will provide a great platform for people looking for work or anyone just considering their future job or training options.
"They will be able to speak to prospective employers and gain valuable insight and advice about getting into the world of work, how companies operate, the skills they look for and the types of careers available.
"We're committed to equipping our residents with the skills to enter strong and prosperous employment sectors, ensuring we are creating a well-qualified workforce to capitalise on regional economic opportunities."
Supporting young people and creating the conditions for recovery and investment are two of the council's key priorities.
Councillor Adam Ellison, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "Last year's event was really well attended and we had great feedback so we are hoping that this year's fair is just as popular.
"There'll be plenty of information and advice for young people considering their options whether that be sixth form, college or an apprenticeship.
"It's also a very useful way for parents and carers to learn more about the opportunities available to their children, so they are very welcome to come along too."
Mandy Morris, Principal, South Tyneside College added: "We are delighted to sponsor Your Next Steps Live for the second year. It's a fantastic event, attracting hundreds of attendees from schools across the borough who recognise the opportunity it provides to speak to a range of providers about their next steps in their educational or career journey.
"Our lecturers across all vocational areas will be offering demos and activities to showcase their area and be on hand to chat through course options."
The event will be held next Thursday (Oct 20) at Temple Park Leisure Centre in South Shields. There is no need to register for the open part of the session, which will be held between 3.30pm and 7pm.
