School Streets Closures
Check which roads will be closed outside schools at peak times.
Contents
Overview
The school streets scheme involves closing the roads near schools at peak times.
These closures aim to improve:
- Congestion
- Air quality
- Road safety
We're working with Sustrans to trial the scheme in the Borough.
The trial starts on 18 September 2023 at Simonside and St Mary's RC primary schools
Who the streets are closed for
The streets outside certain schools will be closed to traffic when pupils arrive in the morning and go home in the afternoon.
This includes parents stopping to drop off or pick up their children.
You can still use these streets as normal if you:
- Live on those streets
- Work at or are a customer of businesses on those streets
- Have a Blue Badge
- Are an emergency vehicle
Children, parents, and carers will be encouraged to walk or cycle to school.
The schools involved
The scheme is being trialled at Simonside and St Mary's RC Primary schools.
It will start on 18 September 2023.
The following streets will be closed on school days from 8am to 9.15am and from 2.30pm to 4pm.
- Glasgow Road
- Ayr Drive
- Arran Drive
- Crieff Grove

Why the closures are needed
The scheme means that there is less traffic when children arrive at and leave school.
This helps keep pupils safe and reduces harmful air pollution outside schools.
It will also help families become more active as they will need to walk or cycle to school.
The schemes are supported by local Councillors and the schools involved.
