Supercharge Your Writing - Writing Poetry with Jake Morris-Campbell

Jake Morris-Campbell will be joining us to host two writing workshops as part of our Supercharge Your Writing series.

This is a two part workshop which takes place on:

  • Wednesday 13 July, 6-7.30pm
  • Wednesday 27 July  6-7.30pm

Please note: By booking a ticket you are booking to attend both sessions.

Week 1:

In this introductory session, you will explore how contemporary poetry makes everyday subjects fresh and compelling. Closely reading exemplar poems and scrutinising form, technique and subject matter, you will gain a greater insight into how poems function. Using imaginative writing prompts and creative writing exercises, you will then put into practice your thinking, beginning to craft an original poem of your own to work on for the next session.

Week 2:

In this follow-up session, you will participate in a poetry workshop, giving and receiving feedback on your own and others' drafts. You will learn the skills required to refine your poems, paying attention to line and stanza breaks, imagery, rhyme and tone. You will look to other poets' manifestos for guidance and will conclude the session with a clearer sense of what and how to write, preparing to bring more of your own poems to fruition.
