Earlier this year the Government announced a one-off energy rebate of £150 to help with rising fuel costs.

Households in Council Tax bands A to D will receive the rebate.

Second homes and empty properties will not benefit.

The payment is being provided to support all residents of the household.

If you are on a low income, and in Council Tax bands E to H, you may be eligible for a discretionary payment.

If you are not sure which Council Tax band your property is in, you can check your Council Tax band online.

See the full eligibility criteria.

If you need to apply for the rebate, you will receive a letter the week beginning Monday 16 May inviting you to apply.

How to apply

You will need to apply for the rebate if:

  • you do not pay Council Tax by Direct Debit
  • we did not collect your first Council Tax payment by Direct Debit on or before 3 May 2022

You can now apply for the Council Tax Rebate online.

See how to apply

You have until Friday 10 June 2022 to apply. If you don't apply by this date, the money will be credited to your Council Tax account.

Automatic payments for Direct Debit payers

We have now made all automatic payments to Direct Debit customers where we have been able to confirm up-to-date bank details. Please check your bank account.

If you have already received the rebate for your household you do not need to apply.

If you haven't received your payment

We have not been able to make automatic payments to some Direct Debit customers where the name on the Council Tax account does not match the name on the bank account. If this is the case, you will receive a letter inviting you to apply for the rebate.

We must have collected your first Council Tax payment by Direct Debit on or before 3 May 2022 for you to receive an automatic payment. If your payment wasn't taken by this date, you will need to apply.
