South Tyneside Council is supporting the latest instalment of the Better Health campaign to encourage residents to lose excess weight, eat more healthily and get more active.
The Better Health website provides lots of free tips & tools to help people get started if they want to lose weight, eat better or get active; and the site can help you find additional weight loss support.
There are a variety of free NHS apps which help people introduce simple changes that will help them eat better & get more active, including the updated NHS Weight Loss Plan, which is shown to help people lose 5.8kg (or 12lbs) on average over just 12 weeks.

The Better Health campaign isn't here just to help adults either.
The NHS Food Scanner App is here to help! It provides parents with an easy hack to improve their children's health. With a simple scan of the barcodes, families can see how much sugar, saturated fat & salt is in everyday food and drinks. The App suggests healthier swaps, by encouraging users to choose "Good Choice" products - there are thousands of Good Choice food and drink
products you can swap to. A quick scan using a product's barcode will show you if it's a Good Choice. Keep an eye out for the "Good Choice" badge in the App, and when you're shopping in store or online.

Maybe you'd prefer regular face to face advice & support to lose weight, get fitter & lead a more active life? Our 'A Better U' Lifestyle Programme could be the perfect solution! It is a FREE 12week lifestyle programme for adults and families in South Tyneside
When you've sign-up you'll attend weekly lifestyle education sessions that will support you to make positive changes that will become lifelong habits.
If you're a Sunderland fan then come together with Black Cats fans like you to tackle your weight and reach your goal of a healthier lifestyle.
FIT BLACK CATS is a FREE 12week programme where you can meet other fans just like you and get to see behind the scenes at Sunderland Football Club. With support from staff and from other group members you'll get tips to improve your eating habits, cut down on alcohol and increase your activity levels - one step at a time!
