Local government elections were held on Thursday 5 May 2022 to elect one councillor in each of the 18 wards in South Tyneside, and a vacancy in the Harton ward.

Registering to vote

The deadline to register to vote in time for the local government elections was Thursday 14 April. 

You can still register to vote for future elections.

Postal and proxy voting

The deadline to apply to vote by post or, to cancel or change an existing postal or proxy vote was 5pm on Tuesday 19 April.

You can apply to vote by post for future elections.

The deadline to apply to vote by proxy (where someone else votes on your behalf) was 5pm on Tuesday 26 April.
