On Song for Library Voices

A weekly singing group is set to resume choir sessions at The Word in South Shields.

Library Voices is starting up again this Thursday (7th October), at 6pm, having been suspended for more than 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The first session back will be a gentle introduction to singing with a selection of rounds and cheerful songs.

The group runs until 7.30pm. Sessions cost £4 per week, with the first taster session free.

Councillor Joan Atkinson, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: "We're delighted to be able to welcome our Library Voices choir to The Word again.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for people to get back to doing some of the things that they love, whether that is singing in a group, joining others with similar interests or just meeting new people. We're really looking forward to seeing the choir return as well as introducing new members to the group."

Councillor Atkinson added: "Our libraries are so much more than book lending services. They are facilities with great community appeal providing a rich and varied programme of events and activities across our sites.

"Library Voices is just one of a number of groups based in our libraries, from baby and toddler groups to reading, knitting and mat making. Our groups offer people something different and the chance to try something new in an informal, relaxing and welcoming environment."
