Register to vote 

The last day to register to vote for this election was midnight on Tuesday 13 July 2021.

If you're registered to vote by post, you will get your postal voting pack from Wednesday 14 July.

It is too late to apply to vote by post at this election.  If you cannot get to your polling station on 29 July you can apply to vote by proxy.

Poll cards will be delivered between 24 June and 1 July. Your poll card will show the address of your polling station.

When voting at a polling station, we ask that you:

  • wear a face covering (unless exempt)
  • bring your own pen
  • sanitise your hands
  • keep a distance from others

Ask someone else to vote on your behalf (proxy vote)

If you're unable to vote in person you can ask someone to vote on your behalf. This is called a proxy vote.

Apply for a proxy vote

If you want to vote by proxy on 29 July, your application form must arrive at the local Electoral Registration Office by 5pm on Wednesday 21 July.

Return your application form to the Elections Office by either:

  • Post: Elections Office, South Tyneside Council, Town Hall, Westoe Road, South Shields, NE33 2RL
  • Email a scanned copy to: elections@southtyneside.gov.uk

You can apply for an emergency proxy up to 5pm on election day (Thursday 29 July).

If you need to self-isolate

If you vote at a polling station and you test positive for COVID-19, or need to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive, you can apply for a proxy vote.

The deadline for normal proxy applications is 5pm on Wednesday 21 July. 

If you are told to self-isolate after the normal deadline you can apply for an emergency proxy up to 5pm on election day (Thursday 29 July).
