Due to the significant number of new housing developments in the Hebburn area and the anticipated increase in vehicular traffic, an investigation into the operation of key junctions in the area has been undertaken.
One junction highlighted as part of the investigation was the junction of Mill Lane and Monkton Lane, Hebburn.
The investigation has identified that the junction is currently over capacity and based on traffic data, the queue lengths at peak time are significant.
It is considered necessary to address the capacity problems identified at the junction as soon as possible. It should be noted that the junction is over capacity based on the current traffic flows and therefore there is the need to mitigate this problem before further traffic is added, due to local housing developments in the area.
The proposed scheme would see the existing mini roundabout removed and replaced with a 3-way signalised junction.
