Recipe idea: Vanilla biscuits

This recipe is from Lynn, a School Chef in South Tyneside. 

Lynn's biscuits


Makes roughly 20 biscuits.

  • Plain flour - 240g 
  • Margarine - 192g
  • Dried semolina - 48g
  • Sugar - 96g
  • Vanilla essence - 2 to 3 teaspoons
  • And something to decorate your biscuits with 


  1. Put all ingredients in a bowl, except the vanilla essence 
  2. Mix or rub together until it looks like bread crumbs
  3. Then add vanilla essence and gather together in a ball
  4. Flour the work surface and roll out the mixture to roughly a inch depth
  5. Use any cutter you wish to cut the biscuits
  6. Rub some margarine on a baking tray and place the biscuits on the tray
  7. Put in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes (gas mark 3 / 325 fahrenheit / 162 celsius)
  8. Remove from the oven, take the biscuits off the tray and put on a wire rack to cool
  9. Decorate your biscuits however you like
