Overview

As part of a new development, developers may make a financial contribution towards public infrastructure.

For example, developers may contribute towards:

  • local facilities, such as schools, open space or play areas
  • affordable housing
  • travel and transport improvements

Developer contributions are also known as 'section 106' or 's106 planning obligations'. See GOV.UK: Planning obligations.

The Council must publish details of financial and non-financial contributions in an Infrastructure Funding Statement.

This statement must be published every year by 31 December.

Please note: South Tyneside Council has not adopted the Community Infrastructure Levy, which is a charge on new developments.
