Details of proposal

Galsworthy Road, Whiteleas - Road Safety Scheme

As part of South Tyneside Council's ongoing commitments to create a safer environment for all highway users, it is proposed to make road safety improvement on Galsworthy Road.

The Road Safety team would like to install a new puffin crossing on Galsworthy Road, Whiteleas and remove the existing pedestrian refuge. The crossing has been proposed to improve the safety of pedestrians in the area, in particular the children heading to and from the nearby outdoor play area.

To avoid conflict between the existing speed camera and the proposed crossing, the speed camera will be relocated with a new location to be agreed with Police.

The volume of the audible signal on the crossing would be switched off due to the proximity to the residential properties.
