School uniform support

Second hand uniforms

The Council usually works with Churches Together South Tyneside, the Key Project and the Salvation Army during the summer holidays to collect and recycle school uniforms.

These uniforms are normally made available to families at the Salvation Army South Shields branch.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic the Salvation Army branch has been closed and this work has not been possible.

Check with your school

Some schools organise for school uniform to be donated and they distribute this for free.

It may be that your school has stock available from donations made before the COVID-19 lockdown. Schools have not accepted donations of clothing during this period because of risks of transmission of the virus.

Contact your school directly to find out if they can offer any support.

School uniform grants

The Council does not offer financial help to buy school uniforms.
