Coronavirus: Self-Directed Support

There are certain areas within Self Directed Support that you may want to know about during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Personal Assistants

If you haven't received a key worker letter for all your personal assistants (PA) and they need one, please contact Self.DirectedSupportTeam@southtyneside.gov.uk.

If you become short of staff, we have a number of people who have been recently trained and had a DBS completed, who may be able to help. For more information, please email Self.DirectedSupportTeam@southtyneside.gov.uk

PPE

Please keep yourself and your staff safe. If you need PPE for your staff, please keep receipts.

For information and guidance on who needs PPE and when to put the PPE on, please see GOV.UK: COVID 19 personal protective equipment (PPE)

Employment Law

If you have any question about what to pay staff if either you or they are ill during this time due to Covid-19, please contact the insurance company you are with, either Premier or Fish.  These organisations are there to help you with your HR needs.

Coronavirus Testing

Coronavirus testing is now also being done on frontline workers who either:

  • are having to self-isolate due to having coronavirus like symptoms
  • have a member of their household showing symptoms

This includes all PA's who meet the criteria above.

Further information about testing can be found at GOV.UK: coronavirus get tested.

Mental Health

There is advice and guidance available to help support people who may be struggling with their mental health. For more information, see Coronavirus: Mental health and emotional wellbeing.

For advice and resources on staying at home, see Coronavirus (COVID-19): Staying at home advice and resources
