The Council's ambition to improve outcomes for children and young people will be discussed at a meeting in South Tyneside next week.
Members of the People Select Committee will be provided with an update on the measures that are in place to ensure that the right children are looked after at the right time.
Councillors will also hear about the services and procedures that the Council offers to help those children and families who require support.
Chair of the Committee, Councillor John McCabe, said: "The rate of looked after children in South Tyneside is below the rate across statistical neighbours. Our children's services have been rated Good by Ofsted with Outstanding areas of service and we work hard to ensure that every child and young person has the best start in life. We will continue to monitor the services we provide to ensure that this is achieved."
The meeting will be held on Tuesday 15 October at 10.00am in the Council Chamber, South Shields Town Hall. Members of the public and press are welcome.
