Students Make the Grade in South Tyneside

Students across South Tyneside are celebrating after notching up another impressive set of GCSE results.

A total of 61 per cent of students in the Borough achieved a grade 9-4 in both English and Maths.

75 per cent of students achieved a grade of 9-4 in English and 67.5 per cent secured a grade of 9-4 in Maths.

Councillor Moira Smith, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "Our young people are to be commended on these results.

"Behind these statistics there will be many personal success stories and we recognise that the achievements of our young people are due to their hard work, the support of their families and carers as well as our excellent teaching and support staff."

Councillor Smith added: "We are committed to giving all our young people the best start in life and providing an all-round excellent education is a core element of that.

"Going forward, we will continue to make every effort to make sure all our young people receive the very best education they rightly deserve."
