A scheme to combat period poverty will be highlighted at the next meeting of the West Shields, Cleadon and East Boldon Community Area Forum.
Members will be given an update on the Red Box Project and the work the community-based initiative does in the area.
The scheme aims to provide free sanitary products in schools and other key locations.
Chair of the Committee, Councillor Olive Punchion, said: "It is a tragedy that some young girls living in poverty struggle to afford sanitary products.
"However, the Red Box Project does some outstanding work to combat this situation. I would encourage people to come along and find out more about the valuable work this organisation does."
At the meeting next Thursday (18 July) councillors will also receive an update on various community partner activities and initiatives within the Forum area. They will also receive a report on housing and area management activity in the area carried out by South Tyneside Homes.
The meeting will be held in South Shields Town Hall next Thursday (18 July) at 10am. All are welcome.
