Why are the catchment areas being changed?
The Council was required to change the agreed admission arrangements for 2020/21, following Cabinet's decision to close South Shields School in August 2020.
Following a six week public consultation which ran from Friday 17 May 2019 until Friday 28 June 2019, the Council proposed that the current catchment area for South Shields School was split between Boldon School and Mortimer Community College. The catchment area would be split using the shortest distance measured as a straight line, from the Ordnance Survey coordinates for the postal addresses to the school main entrance, using South Tyneside Council's Geographic Information System (GIS).
The outcome of the consultation
Following the consultation on the proposal to revise the catchment areas for Boldon School and Mortimer Community College, a formal request was submitted to the Schools Adjudicator in line with the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
A decision has now been received and the revised catchment map below has been approved which will come into effect from September 2020.
As well as the map, we have also provided a postcode check list which can be used to determine which Secondary school is in the catchment area for your address.
