Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Strategy
This is the SEND Strategy for South Tyneside. It has been co-produced by the Local Authority (LA), Schools, Colleges, Work Based Training Providers, Health Partners and families through our Parent Carer Forum (Stronger Together South Tyneside).
We work alongside our Parent Carer Forum in all that we do in SEND. Parents are part of our SEND Strategy Group, attend training of our SENCOs and work with us on our documentation so that it is family friendly. Our SEND Strategy is called 'Stronger Together' reflecting the close partnership that we have with our families, carers and their children. They have partnered us in all our Strategy consultations and the Chair of the Parent Carer Forum Rachel Braithwaite talks regularly at our training for school, college and health staff and is in schools running coffee mornings for parents on a regular basis.
The Minister for State for Children and Families recognised South Tyneside as an area of best practice at a national Parent Carer Forum held in 2017, highlighting the integrated models of working between the LA and the Parent Carer Forum. This is central to how we plan to support our children and young people with SEND, providing them all with the best start in life.
