The role of design in enhancing public spaces will be explained at the next meeting of the council's Place Select Committee.
Members will receive a presentation on how design has been used in regeneration schemes across the Borough to create attractive, visitor-friendly environments.
They will learn about the council's approach to design, including using high-quality, durable materials and ensuring accessibility for a wide range of users.
Cllr Audrey McMillan, Chair of the Place Select Committee, said: "You only need look at some of our fabulous regeneration projects, such as South Shields Market, Littlehaven Promenade and Harton Quays Park to see how design has been used to great effect to create practical, attractive spaces.
"The council's investment in the public realm has triggered private sector confidence, such as with Hebburn Central, where the owners of the shopping centre have subsequently invested.
"I'd urge people to come along to the meeting to find out more about how design will be used in future schemes including South Shields 365 and Jarrow Hub."
The meeting of the Place Select Committee will be held at 10am on Tuesday January 23 at South Shields Town Hall.
