Rocking Opportunity for Young People

An opportunity to learn a musical instrument or take singing lessons is on offer in South Tyneside.

Young people can learn to sing, play drums, guitar, bass or keyboard and get experience of playing in a live band as part of the Rock Works scheme.

The scheme, which is delivered in conjunction with the Academy of Music and Sound in Gateshead, South Tyneside Music Service and Gateshead and South Tyneside Music Education Hub, is aimed at youngsters in Years 5 - 7.

Sessions start next Wednesday (17 January) at the CustomSpace between 4pm and 6pm.

Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, Councillor Joan Atkinson, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get live band experience and learn from the experts.

"Learning to play a musical instrument or taking singing lessons is a great after-school activity which can often provide a welcome boost in learning in other subjects."

The cost, payable in advance, is £30 for ten lessons. Some loan instruments may be available.
