Calling Future Rock Stars

Budding music stars can take advantage of a scheme offering singing and music lessons in South Tyneside.

Young people can learn to sing or play the drums, guitar, bass or keyboard and get experience of playing in a live band as part of the Rock Works scheme which starts next week.

The scheme, which is delivered in conjunction with the Academy of Music and Sound in Gateshead, South Tyneside Music Service and Gateshead and South Tyneside Music Education Hub, is aimed at youngsters in Years 5 - 7.

Councillor Joan Atkinson. Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "Music education is very valuable and this is an opportunity for some of our younger children to enjoy masterclasses from the experts.

"Research has shown that taking singing lessons or learning a musical instrument can enhance other skills and boost learning in others subjects."

Sessions start on Wednesday, 20 September at Custom Space, South Shields, from 4pm to 6pm. The cost is £50 for ten sessions (payable in advance). Loan instruments are available.
