Council and committee meetings
Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
All local authorities in England, including South Tyneside Council, were handed new powers to hold public meetings virtually by using video or telephone conferencing and Government have temporarily removed the legal requirement for local authorities to hold public meetings in person during this ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
There is an extensive schedule of Council meetings, with all Council Committee meetings fully operational including Community Area Forums. This is with the sole exception of meetings of Borough Council.
All committees are conducted virtually and, where required, members of the public are provided with the opportunity to ‘attend’ the meeting by observing the meeting by live stream via YouTube, see watch Council meetings online.
The Council continues to work through the design, implementation and delivery requirements for a meeting of Borough Council.
