South Tyneside councillors will next week receive a report on a major event held in the Borough to map out the next steps for a successful Brexit.
Members of the People Select Committee will receive a verbal report on the BREXploration event which was held in South Shields last month. The session brought together council leaders, representatives from the European Parliament, the voluntary sector, business and industry leaders and other key opinion formers to discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from Britain's exit from the European Union.
With a focus on community empowerment, the session covered wide-ranging topics including prosperity, skills and community collaboration.
Those attending the event took part in themed round-table discussions, each guided by an expert in the field.
The outcomes of the session will be compiled into a report and presented to central government in the Autumn on behalf of the North East.
Chair of the Committee, Councillor John McCabe, said: "Brexit will affect every single area of life so we felt it was important to host this event as local authorities are the ones who interface with our communities on a daily basis.
"In order to deliver services effectively, it is imperative that local authorities and our partners make our voices heard so that we can shape the negotiations."
Members of the public are welcome to attend the people Select Committee which will be held on Tuesday, 18 July at 10am in South Shields Town Hall.
