Overview
The Council is responsible for sweeping and removing litter, household bins and graffiti in South Tyneside.
We provide and maintain bins to try and stop people dropping litter in public places and arrange for bins to be emptied on a regular basis.
What to report
- If you see an accumulation of litter please report it. Teams cannot respond to calls for small or single amounts of litter.
- If you witness anyone littering, you can report it to us. Please note down as many details of the event as possible. All reports will be kept confidential.

What happens next?
Littering is a criminal offence and the offender could be fined.
The Fixed Penalty Notice for litter is £50 and on conviction, the fine is up to £50,000, six months imprisonment or both.
