The Summer Parade is one of the highlights of our event programme and the biggest carnival parade in the North East.
This year's unmissable annual parade celebrates the magic and wonder of children's storytelling.
Inspired by favourite tales such as Cinderella, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Hansel & Gretel and Arabian Nights, this is a must see event for all ages.
These well-loved stories will be brought to life through vibrant costumes, extravagent floats adorned with vivid colours and decorations, marching bands, stilt walkers, giant puppets and dance troupes in a huge spectacular.
Marvel at a gingerbread house made out of sweets, all sorts of animals inspired by The Jungle Book such as tigers, monkeys and elephants, Cinderella's carriage, tinkerbells and lots, lots more!
This huge event has involved professional carnival artists and more than 2000 people from across the North East and beyond, all working under the direction of talented creative production company, Creative Seed.
We're also delighted to announce that South Shields FC will lead this year's parade. Cheer them on as they pass on an open bus and help us celebrate with them their historic season and FA Vase win at Wembley Stadium.
The parade starts at 1pm on Saturday 1 July outside of the beautiful South Shields Town Hall, before travelling through the town centre along Fowler Street and Ocean Road to Bents Park on the seafront, where the fun will continue with music, entertainment and much more.
To enjoy the whole carnival atmosphere of the parade we recommend that you line the route along Ocean Road and at the seafront and cheer as the dancers and musicians go past. Then come along to Bents Park where there will be a food court, beer tent and lots of free entertainment and live music, including a fantastic finale performance by ABBA Express.
Visitors to our hugely popular events in South Tyneside this summer, including the Summer Parade, are being advised of additional security measures being put in place to give extra reassurance and help them feel safe. Please be aware we will be carrying out bag searches for all those wishing to enter Bents Park. Extra staff will be employed to assist with this but delays at gates may occur. To help speed up the process, visitors are encouraged to limit the number of bags they bring, and to leave any sharp instruments at home.
