This allows us to increase occupancy and improve the operational performance of core buildings, which in turn facilitates the disposal of surplus buildings that are no longer required.

Since 2010, a comprehensive strategic review of all buildings and land owned by South Tyneside Council, combined with a more commercial approach to packaging and selling this to the open market, has resulted in an overall net capital and revenue benefit of over £100m.
During this time, we have heavily invested in South Shields Town Hall, significantly improving the workplace environment and allowing us to relocate the vast majority Council of staff to the building. This has allowed us to vacate, demolish or sell 35 other buildings, which were deemed surplus to requirements.
