Members of South Tyneside Council's Place Select Committee will receive an update about the South Shields's 365 regeneration plan when they meet on Tuesday (13 September).
Committee members will receive a presentation about the scheme's progress so far including the ongoing development of South Shields Transport Interchange as well as the town's retail and leisure offer.
The update will also include information about The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, which will open to the public on Saturday 22 October with an exhibition about the world-famous film director Sir Ridley Scott.
Councillor Audrey McMillan, Committee Chairman, said: "It is satisfying to hear that South Shields' 365 regeneration scheme is continuing to make progress with The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, on schedule to open to the public in the autumn.
"The regeneration of South Shields is crucial in helping to revitalise the town centre to make it the North East's premier coastal resort, to boost tourism, increase support for local businesses and provide a better quality of life for both residents and visitors."
Members of the press and public are welcome to attend the meeting, which takes place at 10am, on Tuesday 13 September, at the Council Chamber, Jarrow Town Hall, Jarrow.
