As part of a programme of improvements to its entrance hall, the Central Library in South Shields will be closed for a day later this month (Thursday 27th February).
A new security system is being installed and work is taking place to replace the public lift. The Library Café will also be closed, but access to the Neighbourhood Services reception on the first floor of the Library Building will be possible through an alternative entrance.
Mark Freeman, Libraries Manager, said: "We are sorry for the obvious inconvenience this is going to cause but are sure that our customers will find that the new arrangements will be worth it. No fines or charges will be made for the closed day and we will be making arrangements to adjust the loan records accordingly."
All departments will open as normal on Friday February 28th. For more information please contact Mark Freeman on 424 7880 or David Whale on 424 7868.
