Thinking Of Summer!

Although Winter is still here and spring appears to be just around the corner as the nights are getting lighter, thoughts in the Borough are already turning to Summer and the 2003 Cookson Festival Parade.

The parade of colourful floats, marching bands, uniformed organisations, vintage transport, individual costumed characters and fancy dressed items will provide a colourful and spectacular start to this year's Festival.

This year, to celebrate the diverse cultures in the Borough, the Parade will embrace the theme 'Cultures Together'.
The procession will take place on Saturday 5th July and will start at the Town Hall and end at Bents Park where the annual Cookson Festival Summer Fayre will be taking place. Thousands of spectators are expected to line the route.

Trophies and cash prizes from £250 - £50 are awarded for the best entry in specific categories and there is a special prize of £100 for the best school entry.

Any youth and community organisation, special interest group, commercial, historical group, school, local firm or individual interested in entering the parade should contact Karri Prinn at South Shields Central Library on: 424 7986 for an application pack.
