Kerbside Recycling Scheme Starts

South Tyneside Council's Kerb-It recycling scheme to collect newspapers, magazines, cans and bottles from 65,000 homes is now under way.

Special boxes will be delivered to every home so that people can store newspapers, magazines, cans and bottles separately from their normal household waste. The Kerbside collections will take place every fortnight by recycling contractor Premier Waste Management.

Boxes have been delivered in the Whitburn, Cleadon and Boldon areas and the first collections start on March 3rd. The service will extend to all parts of the Borough by June.

Although 'Kerb-It' will allow residents to recycle right on the doorstep, people can still visit their local recycling centres which are operating as normal.
