South Tyneside residents and local community groups are to be much more involved in local meetings about issues that are important to them.
The Council is currently looking at how the Community Area Forums (CAFs) are run. There are six Forums: Hebburn, Jarrow, Shields Riverside, West Shields, East Shields and Boldon/Cleadon/Whitburn deal with issues affecting them.
Councillor Paul Waggott, Leader of the Council says: "The public showed a huge interest in local democracy last year with the postal vote turn out at the local elections and we want to use that as a basis for even greater involvement."
"Some people and community groups have already attended public meetings to tell us what they think so far but we'd still like to hear more from the general public. If you think that meetings aren't interesting enough or don't deal with important enough issues for your community, then we want to hear from you."
