South Tyneside Council has responded to residents' requests for more litter bins and launched 'Bin-It' an anti-litter campaign to persuade the public to bin their litter.
The Council has just bought 250 extra litter bins and wants local people to suggest the best place to put them.
Councillor Andy Frost, Lead Member for Environment says: "We thought it best to ask the residents where they would like to see the bins, rather than the Council assume that it knows best. This is part of a wider environment programme aimed at making South Tyneside a clean and attractive place to live and visit."
'Bin-It' will be followed by the 'Blitz-It' Campaign this summer to encourage a more responsible attitude towards litter, illegal waste dumping and fly tipping. Area teams will work across the borough to make sure there is a seamless street cleansing service and rapid response to hot spots.
