Fun–Packed Programme In Jarrow Festival 2003

There is a fun-packed programme of entertainment and activities in the two-week Jarrow Festival 2003.

Jarrow Festival starts with a Family Fun Day based at Jarrow Community Association, the Millennium PHAB Club and Jarrow Library on Saturday May 17th starting at 11.00am.

Jarrow MP Stephen Hepburn will open the Festival and Family Fun Day Activities include crafts and sport for children, dance and martial arts displays and children's rides. Visitors can help paint a mural in the newly refurbished Jarrow Library. A garden party is being organised by the PHAB Club. Reflexology and relaxation workshops will be held at Mid Tyne Activities Centre. Local organisations and charities will be mounting fund raising stalls.

The Jarrow Festival is two weeks of activities for all ages from Saturday 17th May until Sunday 1st June. Activities are taking place in schools, community centres, the library, day centres, churches, Bede's World and Viking Arts Studio.

Jarrow Churches Together have a Songs of Praise at 3pm on Sunday 18th May at Jarrow Community Association.

On Saturday 31st May the Medieval Fayre will be held at Drewetts Park, Bede's World with activities for the whole family with a medieval theme. There will be falconry displays, have a go archery, Morris dancing, medieval crafts.

Also on weekend 31st May - 1st June St Paul's Church have a Celebration of Flowers culminating with an auction of the displays.

Applause Youth Theatre Company, based at Jarrow CA, will be performing the play 'Our Day Out' on Sunday 18th May, and Monday 19th May at 7pm at Jarrow Community Association.

Jarrow and Hebburn Local History Society are mounting an exhibition depicting People and Work at the newly refurbished Jarrow Library throughout the festival.

Queens Road Day Centre has a Summer Fayre on Saturday 24th May from noon in the Viking Arts Studio in the shopping centre 10 artists will be working and displaying their work.

Free workshops in watercolour, woodwork, relaxation and massage will be running throughout the Festival at Mid Tyne Activities Centre.

Gideon's Answer will be performing a gospel concert at Grange Road Baptist Church on Friday 30th May at 7pm.

Friday 30th May will see a family fun day at Perth Green with football coaching, cartoon and kite making activities. Local youth bands will also be performing at Perth Green.

Bede's World have organised workshops on digital imaging, painting for the terrified, story telling and pastel art. The annual Teddy Bears Picnic takes place at Hedworthfield.
