Stamp collectors in South Tyneside are invited to participate in a stamp collection competition with the people of the Ile de France region in France.
Every year, the people of the Region celebrate the work of French artist Francisque Poulbot who died in 1946. The artist specialised in painting children in Paris and his paintings are recognised as having great social importance.
In 1986 The Poulbot Challenge was launched as a way of celebrating his life and each year almost 600 school children celebrate his memory
This year, the Poulbot Challenge has a stamp-collecting theme. It is taking place between the 8th and 16th June and will involve various age groups and stamp collecting groups within the Ile de France region. South Tyneside is twinned with Epinay-sur-Seine in the suburbs of Paris and representatives from the area want to extend the competition to the people of the Borough.
All primary and secondary schools in South Tyneside, together with any stamp collecting groups are invited to submit a competition entry. For further details on how to enter contact Fay Cunningham at South Tyneside Council on: 424 7311.
