Promoting Fair Trading And Consumer Protection

South Tyneside Trading Standards Service in partnership with the North East Trading Standards Association is supporting a free half-day seminar being held by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) for businesses in the region.
The seminar has been designed to improve business understanding of important competition and consumer protection legislation. It takes place at St James Park, Newcastle on Wednesday 19th June at 9.15am to 1.30pm and will cover: Competition Law; Consumer rules for businesses; Practical help to avoid breaking the law, also help and advice on unlawful practices activity in other businesses.
Elsewhere on the day of the seminar, consumer information and advice will be available at a roadshow presented by officers from the OFT and local Trading Standards Services at Town Square, MetroCentre in Gateshead.
Councillor Peter Boyack, Lead Member for Neighbourhood Services, says: "South Tyneside Council and our Trading Standards Officers are always keen to work with local businesses to help them understand and comply with the law. Seminars such as this are welcomed as they provide important information but also the opportunity for businesses to learn from each other."
