Make 2016 Your Year to get Active in South Tyneside

Get fit and feel great in 2016 by taking advantage of the fantastic range of activities and leisure memberships on offer across South Tyneside leisure centres.

And to help people get off to a great start South Tyneside Council is offering one month free for any multi or duo membership bought in January 2016.

South Tyneside's five leisure centres across the Borough including the brand new Hebburn Central, which opened in June, have everything people need to get active with a wide variety of sports and athletics, gym and fitness sessions.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: "The New Year is the perfect opportunity for people to make a fresh start and work towards their goal of getting fit and healthy by taking advantage of the wide range of activities and services on offer at our leisure centres.

"We want our residents to benefit from an active and healthy lifestyle and therefore we would encourage everyone to go along to their local leisure centre and try out our range of fitness classes and sports facilities.

"With so many different fitness classes and sports activities to choose from, offering everything from gentle exercise to energetic workouts, people are sure to find something to suit them. Becoming a member gives people access to the full range of South Tyneside Council's leisure centres, swimming pools, health suites, gyms and fitness classes.

People can choose from over one hundred fitness classes across the Borough's five leisure centres through the day and evening, seven days a week, with everything from Aqua Fit and Step Aerobics to Boxer Fit, Pilates and Metafit.

The Borough's newest leisure complex, Hebburn Central, features a 60 multi-station gym, sauna and steam room, dance studio offering a variety of fitness classes, a 25 metre six-lane swimming pool, learner pool with bubble pool, a multi-use sports hall and outdoor multi-use games area.

Sports fans can enjoy an array of games from football and netball to badminton and basketball at the centre's brand new sports hall and outdoor multi-use area. Fitness fanatics can also make full use of Hebburn Central's modern gym which includes a range of equipment from cardio-vascular machines to resistance apparatus as well as free weights.

South Tyneside Council is offering one month free for any of its range of multi or duo activity memberships, from £14 per month for young people and £17.50 per month for adults, that are bought in January 2016:-

Multi activity pass - offers unlimited access to three activities - gym, swim (including sauna) and fitness classes at any time. Full paying adults will receive a free car parking permit valid across all South Tyneside Council sites.

Duo activity pass - Build your own membership package by choosing any two activities from gym, swim (including sauna) and fitness classes.

Members have unlimited access to Hebburn Central, Haven Point, Temple Park Centre, Monkton Stadium and Jarrow Community Pool (where timetable allows) and free use of the running track at Monkton Stadium.

Get Active discount cards give reduced rates and are ideal for people who do not want to commit to a long term membership. The annual cards are free for Under 18s, £5.75 for South Tyneside residents and £7.80 for non-residents (18 and over). Get Active Plus discount cards offer further discounts.
