The ambitious transformation of Littlehaven Beach will top the agenda of next Tuesday's (18th March) Riverside Community Area Forum.
The £5m Littlehaven Seawall and Promenade Project has involved the replacement of the outdated flood defences along a 500-metre stretch between the South Groyne and the South Pier.
It has also seen the existing beach widened and a new promenade and seawall created which will help to provide vital protection against coastal erosion and flooding. Other features include the installation of public art, landscaping, seating and lighting, enabling visitors to enjoy the promenade day and night all year round.
Members of the Riverside Community Area Forum will receive a presentation on the project at their meeting in South Shields Town Hall.
Councillor John Anglin, Chairman of the Riverside Community Area Forum, said: "Our seafront is one of South Tyneside's most important assets and is a key element in the Council's 365 vision to make South Shields an exciting destination every day of the year.
"The major renovation of Littlehaven complements Haven Point, our new £16m seafront swimming pool and leisure complex by providing a fantastic setting for people to enjoy our stunning coastline, but will also help to ensure it is protected from coastal erosion and flooding in the future.
"We're very much looking forward to following the journey of Littlehaven's transformation, from deteriorating sea defences to the creation of something wonderful for residents and visitors to enjoy for many years to come."
Littlehaven Promenade and Seawall will be officially opened next month.
The Forum will also receive an update from South Tyneside Homes about its work across the Riverside area over the year 12 months. This will cover housing management activity and performance such as Decent Homes improvements, Homefinder, customer service, rent collection and managing lettings, repairs, maintenance and making sure housing estates are clean and safe.
Members of the press and public are invited to attend the next meeting of the Riverside Community Area Forum, which takes place on Tuesday 18th March, at 6pm, in South Shields Town Hall.
