Efforts to breathe new life into the heart of South Shields will come under the spotlight when a Council committee meets on Tuesday (23rd July).
The Place Select Committee will receive a presentation on the South Shields 365 Town Team. The team was set up last December and brings local traders, councillors and council officers together to discuss ways to boost business and attract more people to South Shields Town Centre.
The team is one of more than 320 Town Team Partners to be established across the UK following the launch of the Government's Portas Pilot Scheme.
Councillor Nancy Maxwell, Chairman of the Place Select Committee, said: "It's very clear that our town centres need to change and local businesses need our support if they are to prosper in the face of difficult economic times for the high street and changes in shopping habits.
"Those involved in the Town Team share a commitment to work together to help drive up business and increase footfall on the high street.
"I'm very much looking forward to hearing more about the Town Team, the issues they have been discussing and what developments are underway to support the Council's 365 vision to make South Shields Town Centre an attractive and vibrant town centre for the benefit of businesses, residents and visitors alike."
