South Tyneside Partnership

Iain Malcolm

Councillor Iain Malcolm, Leader of the Council and Chair of the South Tyneside Partnership.

We have ambitious plans for the borough and are focused on delivering them.

Despite being one of the hardest hit areas by reductions in central government funding - we are £365 per household worse off than the national average - we are determined to maximise the opportunities we have to drive long-term prosperity across the borough.

Partnership working has always been a real strength in South Tyneside, and the members of the South Tyneside Partnership all share a determination to make South Tyneside an outstanding place to live, invest and bring up families.

Since we agreed our shared vision for the borough, we have made significant progress to improve outcomes and increase prosperity across South Tyneside. We have seen crime and anti-social behaviour fall, whilst educational results have risen - the most improved in the region. And we have been praised nationally for our £1billion borough-wide investment programme for housing, schools and community facilities. Crucially, resident complaints are down, whilst satisfaction is up.

We are now embarking on the next phase of our change programme - underpinned by growth, delivery and efficiency.

We have a 20-year growth strategy, and have set ourselves an ambitious target of creating thousands of new jobs, building thousands of new homes and attracting record levels of investment to the borough.

Alongside this, we are developing innovative new models of service delivery for our children, adults and families - with a clear focus on increasing efficiency and improving outcomes.

And we continue to be focused on delivering first class services in our communities - from new and improved community facilities that provide a range of universal services within walking distance for all our residents, to joined up community safety and enforcement activity.

We have done much already but there is always more we can do. We have ambitious plans in place, and we will continue to deliver them... Change is happening.
