This service provides support and respite to Young Carers between the ages of 5-24 years old who are caring for a family member due to illness, disability, mental health condition, or addiction problem.
Additional support is available to young carers caring for a family member with cancer.
We provide recreational activities including residential short breaks to improve the quality of young carers' lives and reduce isolation. We also provide one to one support, small group work, family support and emotional support.
We deliver awareness-raising sessions to professional teams and to all schools in the Borough.
We also work closely with teaching staff to make sure young carers get added support within school if required and implement a young carers' policy.
After school clubs are provided during school term times. Activities are provided during school half term holidays including a summer programme over 6 weeks including a residential break. Additional support is targeted to specific young carers and their families.
How to get help from the service
Parents and young carers can self-refer to the service. The service leaves leaflets in all schools for self-referrals.
