Health Visitors promote health and the prevention of illness in all age groups.

Home visits for new parents during COVID-19

All new mums / parents will be offered a face to face home visit within 14 days of the baby being born. All other home visits will be offered as usual, or as needed.

To reduce infection risk:

  • we will ask if anyone in the home has COVID-19 symptoms or is self isolating before the visit (if so, contact will take place over the phone)
  • all staff will wear PPE to protect the family and staff

About Health Visitors

Health Visitors promote health and the prevention of illness in all age groups.

Most of their work is aimed at supporting families with young children, beginning in the ante-natal period.

Support for parents

Working with midwives and other healthcare professionals, Health Visitors help new parents prepare for birth and help them adapt to the time ahead.

In a child's early months and years, Health Visitors play an important role in supporting and educating parents on:

  • preventing illness through immunisation
  • the nutritional needs of infants, children and parents
  • coping with minor illnesses
  • behavioural issues, such as establishing good sleep patterns
  • a child's physical and developmental milestones
