Post 16 education (SEN and Disabilities)

Post 16 options for those with special educational needs

Planning for adulthood starts in year 9 with a transition plan.

The law says that all young people in England have to stay in education or training until at least their 18th birthday.

The main options post 16 are:

  • sixth form
  • college
  • apprenticeships
  • training
  • supported internships
  • employment
