Menu and price for primary and special schools

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the menu will vary across schools from September 2020.

The 2019/20 menu will continue in the autumn term.

The current menu is available in primary and special schools from September 2020 to July 2021.

Please note, schools may make changes to their menu, for example where the menu is linked to the curriculum.

There are three menus that rotate on a weekly basis.

Week one starts at the beginning of each new term and after each school holiday, followed by week two, week three, and then returning to week one.

Primary school meal prices

A top quality, fresh and nutritious 2 course meal and drink costs £2.20 per day from September but infant meals are free.

Dinner money is collected weekly in schools on a Monday. Some schools have online lunch payment systems; please check with your child's school. Parents / carers can also pay by cheque, made payable to South Tyneside Council.

On the menu everyday

Food that is available everyday includes: 

  • Fresh sandwiches and wraps
  • Crispy jacket potatoes with toppings
  • Salad cart
  • Fresh fruit, yoghurt and cheese with crackers offered as an alternative dessert 
  • Chilled drinking water
  • Fresh bread

Monday (week one)

Mains: 

  • Savoury meat free mince with herb dumpling and parsley potatoes (V)
  • Omelette (Free range egg) with crusty bread and fresh salads (V)
  • Breaded Quorn dippers with BBQ sauce and golden potato cubes (V)

Tuesday (week one)

Mains: 

  • Spaghetti Bolognaise
  • Pizza pinwheels
  • Quorn Bolognaise in rich tomato sauce (V)

Potatoes / rice / pasta / veg: 

  • Chef's Choice of Seasonal Vegetables
  • Salad Cart
  • Crispy Jacket Potatoes and Toppings and Fresh Sandwiches/Wraps

Desserts:

  • Golden cornflake cake (R/S)
  • Ice cream and fruit cocktail

Wednesday (week one)

Mains: 

  • Cottage pie with root vegetable mash topping (New)
  • Chefs special curry with sunshine rice
  • Vegetable and chick pea curry with sunshine rice (V)

Potatoes / rice / pasta / veg: 

  • Chef's Choice of Seasonal Vegetables
  • Salad Cart
  • Crispy Jacket Potatoes and Toppings and Fresh Sandwiches/Wraps

Desserts: 

  • Blueberry and lemon muffin with milk drink
  • Strawberry fruit sundae

Thursday (week one)

Mains: 

  • Roast chicken with stuffing, rich gravy and golden oven roasted potatoes
  • Baked cheese roll
  • Meat-free baked sausage roll (V)

Potatoes / rice / pasta / veg:  

  • Chef's Choice of Seasonal Vegetables
  • Salad Cart
  • Crispy Jacket Potatoes and Toppings and Fresh Sandwiches/Wraps

Desserts: 

  • Apple and raspberry sponge with custard (R/S)

Friday (week one)

  • Top crust steak pie with gravy and mash
  • Baked fish fingers with tomato sauce and oven baked wedges
  • Vegetable fingers with garlic mayo & baked wedges (V)

Wednesday (week three)

  • Tuna and salmon pasta salad with crusty bread
  • Veggie mince and dumplings served with mashed potato (V)

Friday (week three)

  • Chef's pie choice of the day with roast potatoes
  • Hot deli style assorted paninis with side salad
  • Tomato and basil pasta (V)

The menu is subject to availability. 

After every school holiday the menu reverts back to week one.
