What is Hospitality and Hope?

Formed in 2002, Hospitality and Hope is a Christian charity providing support and help to anyone in need, but homeless and disadvantaged people in particular. Hospitality and Hope provide a range of services from their base at Hampden Street Operations centre, Hampden Street, South Shields NE33 4JR. We also run the South Tyneside food bank, clothing bank, second hand book shop, shower facility, laundry facility, counselling rooms/interview rooms.

Hospitality and Hope is a registered charity . charitable incorporated organisation (CIO)

Our office is open on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am-2pm. Please call first if you have donations of food or clothing to drop off.

Hospitality and Hope soup kitchens 

Operating from Hampden Street, Hospitality and Hope provides hot food, sandwiches and drinks in a friendly and comfortable environment to anyone in need.

Clothes, shoes, bedding, towels, blankets and sleeping bags for street sleepers are also provided.

Hospitality and Hope also provides a listening ear and prayer if requested.

  • Wednesdays, 11am - 12noon
  • Sundays, 2 - 3pm                                         

Who is this service available to?

Anyone in need over the age of 18 years old.

South Tyneside Food Bank

The Food Bank provides emergency food parcels to vulnerable and needy people in South Tyneside.

Hospitality and Hope has identified that in the current economic climate, not only existing clients but other people are experiencing hardship. Food vouchers are available to organisations working with those in the Borough suffering from food poverty.

If your organisation would like food vouchers please call us on 0191 420 3336. When the phones are not manned please leave a message and we will return your call.

Who is this service available to?

People wishing to access this service must do so via one of the partner agencies, for example people currently active with social services can approach their social worker. The agency will assess need and issue a voucher if appropriate. The voucher can then be exchanged for a food parcel at our regular foodbank session.


There are no charges for the service but the charity do accept donations.
