The dementia support workers at Alzheimer's Society offer information and practical guidance to help you:
- understand dementia
- cope with day-to-day challenges
- prepare for the future
They offer information to people who are worried about their memory and ongoing support to people affected by dementia over the phone or in writing.
What's on offer?
Currently Alzheimer's Society South Tyneside dementia support service offers:
- Remote Dementia Support - This service consists of our normal Dementia support, advice & signposting as well as checking in on general health and wellbeing during Covid19 pandemic. We are offering welfare calls for carers and people living with dementia on a weekly / fortnightly / 3 weekly / monthly basis and are taking new referrals. Companion calls are also available, supported by our volunteers.
- Remote Services for Wellbeing - Virtual Singing for the BrainĀ® via Zoom & Ring & Sing - Singing for the BrainĀ® through conference call are being offered to service users. It provides a good wellbeing and social boost for those who enjoy their music and singing!
- Carer Phone Peer Support - For family and carers of people living with dementia. A confidential, friendly, supportive place to ask, talk & share with other carers. Through group conference phone line.
- Virtual Dementia cafe - A social and interactive cafe for people living with dementia, their family and carers. Takes place through zoom. We welcome referrals for people living with dementia and their family / carers at home. Join us with a cuppa online for actives such as:
- seated exercises
- local history reminiscence
- group activities
- breakout room chat time
- Musical Memories
- Dementia support & local area update bulletins - Service users can opt into weekly bulletin updates of relevant information around keeping safe and managing wellbeing during lockdown / restrictions as well as any important local or national information around Covid19 from trusted sources.
Who is the service available to?
- People with Dementia, their carers, family and friends
- People registered with a GP in or work in or live in or care for someone with dementia who lives in the Borough or Clinical Commissioning Group area
When is it available?
- Monday - Friday, 9am - 4.30pm

Coronavirus (Covid-19) update
In line with government guidance on social distancing, Alzheimer's Society will focus on providing support through telephone and email. The service will not be delivering face-to-face support.
