Where to find funding

Funding will depend on your project and what you want to do, however here are some places you might want to start.

Individual government departments

Funding announcements are made on individual Government Department websites. A good place to look is the new or recent publications sections, where there are often announcements and press releases about new sources of funding.

Central government

Central government also has a specific website for community and voluntary sector organisations looking for funding.

Regeneration agencies

The Homes and Communities Agency are a key agency in the North East.

European Funding

The 2007-13 European Regional Development Fund focuses on business development.

The European Social Fund seeks to increase skills levels and help unemployed people move into employment.

The European Union offers specialist funds to support trans-national working and sharing of best practice.

National Lottery Funding

The Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Sports England, the Arts Council and the UK Film Council distribute good causes monies raised through the National Lottery. For more information visit the Lottery Good Causes website.

All of the Lottery distributors operate a small grants scheme, allowing easier access to small amount of grants. For details on specific schemes, check out the main lottery distributor websites. One of the main schemes is Awards for All

Trust and foundation grants

A number of community trusts and foundations exist, that distribute money to community and voluntary sector groups, including:

Lloyds TSB

Greggs Foundation

Northern Rock Foundation

Esme Fairbair Foundation

Sir James Knott Trust
