Whitburn Cemetery opened in 1882, and covers an area of 5 acres. Anyone can be buried here irrespective of where they live or their religious beliefs.
The cemetery chapel is available to be used for funeral services.
In addition to the memorials on the graves, boulder memorials are located around the perimeter of the chapel. These can be purchased in memory of a loved one who is not buried in Whitburn Cemetery.

Family history and genealogy research
Copies of Whitburn Cemetery's burial records are held in the Local Studies Department of The Word. The records are free to use. They're in great demand so it's a good idea to make an appointment to use them. You can contact the library on 0191 424 7860.
If you're unable to visit the library, we can conduct research for you. However, there is a charge for this service. Contact us for more information or use the Burial records search facility.
